אַחֵר

אַחֵרm. (b. h.; v. foreg. a. חוֹרִי) (back of, another, the other, stranger. דבר א׳ (abbr. ד״א) 1) another thing, another explanation. Snh.IV, 5; a. v. fr. in Midr. 2) euphem. for idolatry, swine , v. דָּבָר. 3) Aḥer, (apostate, byname of Elisha ben Abuyah. Ḥag.14b; a. e.Pl. אֲחֵרִים others; 1) freq. in Mishn. for anonymous authorities differing in opinion, א׳ אומרים, v. Hor.13b אסיקו לר׳ מאיר א׳ R.
